The prevention and control of healthcare associated infections is one of the major issues facing the NHS and other healthcare providers today.
It is vital that all staff are trained in how to behave to reduce the likelihood of infections starting or spreading.

Rising levels of health care associated infection (HCAI) have gained prominence in the media and in politics, leading to great public concern. All NHS organisations are required to put infection control and basic hygiene at the heart of good management and clinical practice. All healthcare workers have a duty of care to their patients and preventing infection forms part of that duty of care. This module will help NHS organisations to fulfill their requirements because, on completion, learners will have gained an overview of the key elements of infection control, understand how infections might occur and how good practice can reduce their likelihood and prevent their spread.

The Management of Urinary Catheterisation for Adults

This module, delivered fully online, provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of all the issues relating to urinary catheterisation, and also provides links to resources including the recently produced Skills for Health continence competences and RCN catheter guidelines for nurses. The module is suitable for any health workers with a responsibility for urinary catheterisation, including qualified nurses and health care support workers.

Several key documents have acknowledged that urinary catheterisastion is a major cause of Health Care Associated Infections (HCAIs) and the aim of this module is to improve catheter care and reduce HCAI through effective education of Health Care workers in order to tackle this growing problem.
This module has recently recieved RCN Accreditation.

Aseptic Techniques

Rising levels of health care associated infection (HCAI) have gained prominence in the media and in politics, leading to great public concern. All NHS organisations are required to put infection prevention and control at the heart of good management and clinical practice.
Having completed this e-learning course, learners will understand what an aseptic technique is, what circumstances the technique should be used in and the reasons why. They should also be able to apply the principles learnt in this course into practice.

The Assessment & Management of Urinary Incontinence and Bladder Dysfunction in Adults

Incontinence is a common among people of all ages, affecting about one in eight men and one in four women. This equates to approximately three to six million people in the UK. Urinary incontinence and bladder dysfunction have numerous social and physical impacts which can be very damaging to people.

The module aims to provide the learner with information to enable the knowledge and skills to be devloped to undertake a holistic assessment of individuals with urinary incontinence and bladder dysfunction, and initiate appropriate treatment.

This module is being developed in collaboration with NHS Bradford and Bradford and Airedale Community Health Services Trust and is due for release Summer 2010. The module will cover the following,
